Couple of days ago, I’ve stumbled on a news article (better late than never) about a sasquach/bigfoot horror movie “Night Claws”.
What’s so special about that? Lots of low-budget bigfoot movies are being made every year. This one however is somewhat special, and here’s why.
1. It’s directed by David A. Prior – a name familliar to b-action movie fans, as Prior is the director who made such classic action movies as “Deadly Prey” and “Hostile Environment”.
2. “Night Claws” have a great cast of B-movie stars, whom I personally havent seen for a long time.
They include Frank Stallone (forget Sly, Frank here is in a league of his own), Sherrie Rose (from the “King of the Kickboxers” fame, I still stick to opinion that she is prettier than Sharon Stone, was and is today), Reb Brown (original Captain America, and a hero of the numerous late 80’s “jungle war” action movies), and David Prior’s regular (and a friend I suppose) – Ted Prior (yes, Mike Danton from “Deadly Prey”).
The synopsis for the film goes like this: A small town is being terrorized by a killer Bigfoot. One that is blood thirsty, vicious and kills without warning and without discrimination. A scientist by the name of Sarah Evans shows up to help the town’s sheriff and his deputy girlfriend Roberta hunt this thing down and put an end to the killings.
At the same time, Hunter Crawford is a thug-like character who along with his two henchmen, is hunting the creature himself, for his own personal gain and he does not care who he has to go through to accomplish this. Enter Charlie Parker, a tough east coast type who is on a survivalist camping trip, led by the seasoned survivalist Sharon Farmer at the behest of his young trophy wife, and whom, by no fault of his own, winds up being used as bait for the creature, by Hunter.
But there is more at work here than meets the eye. A sinister plot is afoot and at its center is the vengeful Mister Testi. And in the end this plot takes a twist that no one will expect.
Below are some pictures (courtesy of Matt Gates) taken on the set of “Night Claws”, and a trailer as well. It looks like the whole crew was having a lot of fun on set (except for the director maybe, he looks kinda strict and determined). If the cast mentioned above means something to you, then you’ll probably be looking forward to this little horror flick. I know, I will.
