Yes, as we found out, Sheldon Lettich – the one who is known for his work with Jean-Claude Van Damme (Lionheart, Double Impact), Mark Dacascos (Only the Strong) and Dolph Lundgren (The Last Patrol) is currently busy working on an action thriller titled “The Black Rose”.
The film is reportedly a joint Russia-US production. It is currently shooting in Moscow, until July 7, and then the cast and crew will move on to shoot more scenes in Los Angeles.
“Black Rose” packs a quite familiar cast: Alexander Nevsky, Kristanna Loken, Adrian Paul, Robert Davi, Matthias Hues, and world champion ballroom dancer and fitness model Oksana Sidorenko.
“Black Rose” is co-written by Brent Huff – a former action star-turned director, who has previously worked with Nevsky and Robert Davi.
Reportedly, the rights for the film are planned to be sold to Japan, Germany, France, Italy, Great Britain, Greece, Portugal, Spain, Poland, China, India, Brazil and South Korea.
The film centers around Nevsky’s Moscow police major character, who travels to Los Angeles to help the local police there investigate a series of murders in the Russian immigrant community.
The film is a production of Alexander Nevsky’s own Los Angeles-based company Hollywood Storm, and it will be theatrically released sometime in December 2013.
Matthias Hues shared some information on his Facebook page regarding the film, noting that “Russian distributor Luxor has picked up…” the film. He did not reveal any details regarding his own part in the film.
It should be noted that in 2012, Hues, Adrian Paul and female action star Cynthia Rothrock visited the 1st International Adventure movie forum “ACTION HERO 2012″, which was organized by Alexander Nevsky. Thus, it is possible that the deal to make a joint film was “in the works” since that time.
Back in April of 2013, Alexander Nevsky gave an interview to Russian ProfiCinema, where he spoke about the upcoming film.
In particular, he said that the film was originally planned back in 2009, when Brent Huff wrote the original screenplay, which was later re-written by Sheldon Lettich.
“The production will last for 1,5 months. The original English version of the film, oriented for American market, will be ready by November, while the Russian-dubbed version will be ready by December,” Nevsky said at the time.
He noted that he will try to hold the budget of the film within $6 million (some media outlets claim it is over $8 million), adding that the viewers can expect “cool, hard action”, while the film also has elements of comedy and horror.
The IMDb pages of both Sheldon Lettich and Alexander Nevsky so far do not have any information on “The Black Rose” project.
