Jagdish Raj, the Indian actor, who holds the Guinness World Record for being “the most typecast actor,” died Sunday at his home.
Raj was best known for playing police inspectors in Bollywood films. He was 85 years old.
Speaking to The Times of India, Raj’s son-in-law, Rakesh Malhotra, said the veteran actor had been “in and out of hospital for the past two years and had respiratory problems. He passed away this morning [Sunday] due to respiratory arrest.”
Born in the town of Sargodha in what is now Pakistan, Raj – who was born Jagdish Raj Khurana – holds the Guinness World Record for being “the most typecast actor” thanks to his performances as a police inspector in 144 films.
His daughter, Anita, is also an actress.
