“Villains of the Silver Screen” – 1st release: Khan

I love bad guys, I love villains. On screen they inspire me, in a way. They are the core of each film, even the bad one.

Villains make good guys look good, and even beyond that. Great villains are memorable.

So, I’ve decided to open a new column here on BZFilm, so please welcome – “Villains of the Silver Screen”.

This is the first release, and in each new release we will be focusing on one villain of one movie (sometimes series as well).

Here we will discuss various movie villains, talk about how their characters could have been exploited or developed, and so on.

No A-list villains here, since there are plenty of those, who people don’t even know about. So, here comes our first villain…

FILM: King of the Kickboxers (1991)
SCREEN NAME: Khan
PLAYED BY: Billy Blanks
PART: Main villain
TYPE: Expert martial artist, black
CRIMES: Kills his opponents during fights

Billy Blanks did make an impact on the action b-movies in the 90s, and his first, and possibly the most memorable was in “King of the Kickboxers in 1991, where he played vicious, merciless martial arts champion Khan.

Khan lives in Thailand, and fights in these illegal tournaments, often killing his opponents. Sometimes he gets filmed while doing it, and these “tapes” are later sold to some rich people. Khan seems to be an american, and the name is probably a gimmick. Khan’s martial arts skills are outstanding, and he does believe he’s the “best there is”, however, since this is a film, a hero in Loren Avedon proves him wrong in the end of the film. You can watch the full film online here for free.

POSSIBILITIES: Khan’s character in my opinion, could have been developed. If they ever decide to go for a remake, this would be the story I’d go for – focus on Khan, what was his real name, how he ended up in Thailand, and how he became the King of the Kickboxers. This would be…a prequel to the original film. And as the movie develops, we see Khan more and more turning into a villain towards the end of the film.

Who could play Khan: I have no idea, if sticking to the original character, it has to be someone black, and only one name comes to mind – Michael Jai White.

Stay tuned for another release of “Villains of the Silver Screen”. If you have some villain that we could discuss, feel free to let us know!

Quite soon the CGI will become so good, that filmmakers will be able to "revive" long deceased stars. Your thoughts?
