Director of “Saw”, James Wan on what makes scary films work

james-wanThe director of “Saw”, James Wan has recently expressed his thoughts on what works in a horror film.

In an exclusive featurette from the home video release of his latest film “The Conjuring”, Wan explained what he likes to put emphasis on, in order for a horror movie to work.

“I’ve always said that what makes scary movies work is not so much the visual,” Wan said.

“It’s the sound, it’s what you think you see through the sound design. And that is the most important thing.”

Wan also mentioned the classic haunted house horror movie tricks, which, if done correctly, turn to become very effective in a movie.

Wan is known for directing such movies as “Saw” (2004), “Death Sentence” (2007), “The Conjuring” (2013). He’s also directing the 7th part of the “Fast & Furious” francise.
