Iranian filmmaker selected as jury for Shanghai International Film Festival

khosrow-massoumiIranian filmmaker Khosrow Ma’asoumi has been selected to judge at the 16th edition of Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) in China.

Ma’asoumi who was participated in two previous editions of the Chinese festival and won the award has been invited to serve as a juror at this year’s event, Press TV reported.

The festival will dedicate a particular section to Ma’asoumi to honor this acclaimed Iranian filmmaker.

Masoumi’s recent award-winning movie The Bear garnered the Best Feature Film at the Golden Goblet Awards of the 15th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) and was the sole Iranian representative at the competition section selected from among 10 other productions.

The movie was also nominated in two categories for the Best Director and Best Film awards at the 2012 Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA).

Iranian woman filmmaker Narges Abyar’s drama Objects in a Mirror Are Closer than They Appear is also to be screened at the Competition section of the festival.

The British director Tom Hooper will lead the jury selecting the winner of the 2013 Golden Goblet Award at the Chinese festival.

Established in 1993, Shanghai International Film Festival is one of the biggest film festivals in Asia.

The 2013 edition of Shanghai film festival is programmed to take place from June 15 to 23.
